Learn & Earn / Home Inspection / Next Topic The Lure of Low Cost It is amazing that people buying homes that cost anywhere from $200,000 to a million dollars will hesitate when it comes to getting the best home inspection they can afford. Since home inspectors have been unlicensed in the state, meaning anyone can say he or she is a home inspector, home buyers need to analyze the low cost, quick home inspections. You may save money by only paying $100 or $150 for a home inspection but more likely, you will lose a much greater amount than the $100 or $150 extra it would have cost to have a thorough inspection. A good inspector knows that it takes 2.5 or more hours to do a thorough inspection. Add in the travel time and the time to do a report, and it is a no-brainer that the $100 inspection can't be worth much. If the inspector never climbs roofs, wiggles in to crawl spaces, or test the furnace, appliances, etc. you are only saving money for a portion of an inspection. The important question to think about when you buy the low cost inspection is this: What part of the home components didn't get properly addressed and how much will it cost to remedy problems?
