If the home buyer puts down 20% or more on their home or reach that amount of equity, they can request the option of paying property taxes on their own.Property tax rates vary from town to town and should be part of consideration of buying a home. Some communities have a significantly higher rate than surrounding towns and, if you are close on how much you can pay for a monthly payment, you may have to knock them off your list. Property tax rates are expressed as a dollar amount per $1000 of value; for example, $13.97. Boston (and all the areas within Boston) home owners have an online service available to them from the Assessing Department. Its purpose is to accurately determine the value of property for the purpose of taxation.
