Looking
for a home in a top-rated school district generally means higher
prices. Home buyers are willing to pay more for homes in good school
districts. Resale is also an issue for some home buyers who don't
have children, particularly for relocating transferees who know
they will only be in Massachusetts for a few years. There are a
number of good sources of school ratings data about the public schools.
The best known are probably the state-sponsored
distrct profiles. Starting in the spring of 2000, real
estate shoppers will have an additional score to compare -- the
MCAS (Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System).
